Bringing friendship and books

LIBRARY lover and author Gwayne Naug has always harboured a desire for paperbacks.

Not only writing four of them, but reading them too.

However, at 93 years old, a trip to the library became increasingly difficult.

That’s when the Yarra Plenty Regional Library Service stepped in and offered her a free home library service.

Volunteer Kathie Roberts delivers items Ms Naug has picked, which include books, CDs, DVDs, magazines and audiobooks in 14 languages.

“Libraries are great for mobile people, but not easy for older people with issues who can’t carry books and walk around with them,” Ms Naug said.

“Not only do you get the books delivered but you can chat with a like-minded person about the books.

“Kathie is friendly and reliable, always comes when she says she’ll come, and even rings the day before to remind me.”

If you’d like to be part of the program, phone the library’s seniors and volunteers co-ordinator Carolyn Jury on 9088 3425.
