Prue Spencer, Nicola Gidley and Lee Cohen are taking centre stage at the Melbourne Magic Festival to shine the spotlight on women in magic in their new show, Now You See Us.

Nicola, 17, fell in love with the art of magic after injuring her knee playing cricket.

With nothing to do for three months, she picked up a deck of cards to learn some tricks and went on from there.

Prue, 15, wanted to get into magic when her dad showed her the “disappearing thumb trick” when she was little.

“I was so amazed and truly believed my dad’s thumb had vanished,” she said.

Lee, 35, began performing with her father when she was only eight.

“I grew up around magic and loved sharing stories and feelings of amazement with people,” she said.

“I kept going and I’ve been performing and teaching magic ever since.”

The trio said the show was unique in a male-dominated industry.

Now You See Us is showing at The Melba Spiegeltent from July 9-13 at 7.15pm.
