A RINGWOOD family business has celebrated its 40th birthday.

Bernies Music Land, on Canterbury Rd, has been servicing the musical needs of residents across Melbourne since 1977.

It was set up by Bernie Capicchiano, who still manages the business with his wife Doris and daughter Michelle.

At one stage, Bernies Music Land had 11 stores and schools around the state before moving to the Ringwood superstore in 1990, which has a retail space, music school, service centre and distribution centre.

Mr Capicchiano said he couldn’t believe 40 years had passed since it all began.

“Obviously there is some pride in being able to provide a musical service for people for so long,” he said.

“The people who come and experience us will realise what we’re about and that we’re dedicated to having great instruments.”

Mr Capicchiano said he was proud his business was the starting point for many budding musicians.

“There have been thousands of youngsters over the years who started learning music through our programs and it’s great to see them grown up and now teaching their children to play and enjoy music,” he said.

“A number of them are playing professionally and semi-professionally, as well as for hobby and enjoyment.”

Bernies Music Land marked its birthday with a celebration at its store on Monday last week.
