Lawton in development squad call-up

The stellar year continues for elite players at Southern United.

Amy Lawton, who as a member of the U21 Australian squad was selected in the Australian Hockeyroos team for the game against New Zealand in April, is one step closer to becoming a full member of the Hockeyroos. She was selected to be part of the Australian development Squad, joining United clubmate Nathan Ephraums at the same level.

Younger Australian representatives Craig Marais and Emily Hamilton-Smith have returned from Europe where they were part of the School Sports Australia U17 team. Emily was vice-captain of the girls team, and Craig was captain of the boys. He led the side to victory over Germany, Netherlands and Ireland, and was voted player of the tour by teammates.

Meanwhile the Premier League teams played Footscray at Kingston Heath, and the men’s team held top spot with a 5-3 win.

Scores were 2-2 at half time. After the break a pass from Carlin Walker to Craig Marais gave Southern a third goal and it was on its way to another strong win.
