For 17 years, Michael Baxter has built and created the scenes behind Circus Oz.

The Pascoe Vale-based production designer joined the company after studying architecture and building yacht masts. He is tasked with solving problems created by shows, such as in Wunderage, in which he designed a tightrope weighed down by bluestone rocks.

“We’ve been having conversations about a tightwire show for 20 years,” he said.

“If there’s a concept for a show, we work out what kind of act will be in the show and what apparatuses we need.”

Wunderage is showing from June 20-30. Tickets: circusoz.com
