Tree party to show off leafy needs

Ukulele Ewie, Sue Bolton, Pauline Galvin, Corinna Jane and Leo Nazarov are hosting a tea party on August 4.

A tree-mad Coburg group is hoping a little bit of magic will help protect trees in Gandolfo Gardens.

The Guardians of Gandolfo Gardens will host a tea party in the green space next to Moreland train station on August 4 to protest against possible plans the Level Crossing Removal Project has to use the site to house equipment.

Group spokeswoman Corinna Jane said the event, which will feature a Mad Hatter tea party and music, would show off the importance of the gardens.

“These trees protect us and we protect them back,” she said. “Some of these trees are over 100 years old, we owe it to previous generations to protect them.

“This event is intended to be lighthearted, but our message is serious — leave our trees alone to continue to work their magic.”

The event will begin in the gardens at 10am.

Final designs for the installation of skyrail at Moreland train station are yet to be revealed by the LXRP, but it previously said it would attempt to minimise environmental impacts.
